I am a writer of short stories, and a student, who is perhaps too fond of watching movies and spending time on the Internets. I spend a lot of time on Newgrounds, and I've attempted but generally failed to learn flash. There isn't really much else to say.

Little Wheel

"Nice story, art but..."

submission: Little Wheel
date: June 16, 2009

I liked the game overall. The art was incredible and the story, if simplistic and overdone was at least entertaining, touching, and done well. However that is essentially where the praiseworthiness stops with the game because it is essentially an interactive movie. The puzzles are all ridiculously easy and there were so many advertisements it really PLAYED more like a game of "find the website plug" and "click the little white circles." As a writer and someone who has tried to work with flash as an art medium, I can appreciate what you're going for here, but the ubiquitous ads and the sheer ease of play (I mean honestly, a second grader could beat this) lowered the score to a 7/10.

Khronos

"Very well done."

submission: Khronos
date: October 18, 2008

The graphics were excellent, including a very high level of detail, though the enemies lacked variation and were a tad blurry at times. I wouldn't know about the sound because I play games with the sound off, but other people seem to think it's a bit repetitive. The design of the gameplay was a bit one-dimensional but for what it is it's incredibly well done. Plays as a solid brawler with all the violence and gore one would expect from combat in Hell. The game struck me as a cross between Mortal Kombat and God of War, with the enemies from He-Man stuck in for good measure. I loved it personally but what it really needs is a story mode. You've developed an awesome and badass main character that, judging by the description text for the game, already has a backstory. Let us find out more about Khronos! Let us slaughter the enemies of the earth to defend our people, fall valiantly in an epic battle, and then meet the dark lord Sish only to be condemned to eternal battle! That's what would make this game a 10/10. Also: lag control. The combo system worked great though it was a little unvaried, but the lag became really bad whenever there were more than three enemies on screen.

The Gaming Quiz

"A good game"

submission: The Gaming Quiz
date: September 20, 2008

A good balance of easy and hard questions, with the first four rounds being easy and the last two being very difficult. The questions were good and seemed well-researched. The game interface is really what's noticeable, though, as it is uniquely excellent for a quiz game. You also get bonus points for having a question about Shining Force which is the greatest non-modern game I've ever played. 7/10. I'd tell you to improve the ratings system, but you really don't need to as that might cause people to take this more seriously, whereas it's most enjoyable as an easygoing "Looks interesting, i'll see what I'm rated" sort of quiz game.

The Fur Fighters

"Excellent!"

submission: The Fur Fighters
date: March 28, 2008

It's a great, actually fun game that also has a great message! I very much approve of how you've combined entertainment with an attempt to make a positive change in the world. Unfortunately, i think this game is probably wasted on Newgrounds, where people are about as compassionate as a starving tiger is to its prey. Keep up the great work!

Blind Swordsman

"A neat little idea...i liked it."

submission: Blind Swordsman
date: March 20, 2008

You applied the idea of a mouse-guided character to a genre that has never before used one: an original idea. In addition; the game plays well and is actually rather fun. Doesn't cause lag, and while the graphics leave a little to be desired, the game is well-rounded and has a good balance of difficulty and fun. A nice little piece of hack-and-slash genre reform. All-in-all it gets a 7.5 out of 10 from me; but if you improve the graphics, and maybe add in a "special move" of some sort (a staple for this genre of game) then this could well be worthy of a 10/10. I look forward to seeing more good work from you. :)

Author's Response:

Well, the spacebar to go faster was meant to be a special move, sorta... I was trying to think of something else for a real special move, but all I could think of was something that would kill all the ninjas on screen, and I figured that would be a bit cheap :P There's also a little hidden technique that I shall not detail...
Thanks for the detailed review and compliments. I just wish I could have added the slashing and dying sound effects, but it caused some fierce lag, and I probably should have shaded the characters :P

ScientLOLojyuuichi!!

"I loved it"

date: February 16, 2008

A nice satire on modern events, summing things up nicely and mostly truthfully (except for the xenu being anonymous part), as well as being well and truly funny (a rarity). Excellent job.

Devil From Darkness

"Good mouse effect"

date: February 16, 2008

Like you said: it's a nice, cool little effect. Use it to make a game and then resubmit to NG. I do give you credit for making the effect, which works perfectly and is very nice, but please don't submit something like this, as it's neither a complete flash nor a complete game.

"Why bother?"

date: February 12, 2008

Honestly. I'm not one of those people who is going to cheer you on simply because i have some sadistic urge to watch you piss people off. Neither, though, am i one of those who would get reallly angry at you and write a long speech about your so-called flashes. But i simply ask you this: why waste your time on this? It doesn't accomplish anything for either you or anyone else. There are a million ways to improve this, but you won't do any of them. I just want to know: why the hell do you do this?

Strategy Defense 3

"Frankly, I liked it better before."

submission: Strategy Defense 3
date: January 22, 2008

There's no actual "strategy" involved, which is somewhat of a downer for those who log in to play something called "strategy defense." I will give you this though; it IS a defense game this time rather than a turn-based strategy game. Personally, i liked it better before, i mean in the first 2 you actually had to THINK, whereas in this one you can win by building two towers clicking build the highest level soldier forty times, wait a couple minutes, and repeat. Alright, the breakdown:

Graphics: 5/10 not sucky, not too good, about typical for this sort of game.
Sound: ?/10 i didn't play it with the sound on, sorry.
Playability: 7/10 it's kinda fun, though not very difficult or involved.
Replay Value: 4/10 play it once and you get bored.
Miscellaneous: 4/10 caused massive lag even on low graphics.

Anyway that's just my opinion, and if this is the sort of thing you're into i guess it's great, but as i've said twice now: i liked it better before.
